Trying to make a difference

Sometimes life doesn't happen as you plan it. (to quote my dad: Man plans, G-d laughs)

Some of these things work out positively, (like the time I got a free ticket to the Mets/Nats game), and sometimes things turn out so poorly that you can't bear to talk about them, and feel incredibly alone in the world.

That is why I am participating in the A TIME walk on May 18,2008. A TIME provides financial, medical and support services to individuals in our community dealing with infertility, miscarriage and adoption.

Infertility affects one in six couples. One in three women will have a miscarriage. As more information becomes readily available, the number of singles with infertility issues is alarming. This is just a small sampling of the population A TIME serves. We can make a difference in bringing life and hope to our clients. You can donate through the internet with a credit card.

To sponsor me all you need to do is click here to go to A TIME's web site.

Thank you so much for your support. Because nobody should have to go through this alone.

Phone calls I often get *Updated*

Friend: Hi D, is x restaurant in city you've never been to kosher?
Me: Well, let me Google the Va'ad from that city for you

Friend: Hi D, what time is Shabbos in city you've never been to?
Me: Let me check Hebcal
(Checking Hebcal, thinking, "Gosh, I wish I was in that city, too")

This happens several times a year

And I wish I was in Disney World. (But not running the marathon. Good luck, Friend)

Update:
A rabbi just called me asking where he could go for lunch because the place he wanted to go to closed. Note to everyone: keep up to date with Kosher-NY.

Blogs and Guns

Or the first annual Matzoh Free Trekkie Convention: AKA Bloggers Meetup!

Thanks to P-Dawg and G-reg for hosting, after hosting both seders and kajillions of meals, it was quite the shin dig! With P-Dawg's special PesaCHdik onion and garlic-free guacamole! And a beautiful fruit platter made by EET.
#1 Commenter, SaraK came, and we were joined later by her new roommate EMP.
Rounding out the Qveens Qvoalition were Saran Dez and ELIANNA, accompanied by their hosts, Kefirot and family.
Providing Kosher For Passover beer (it just sounds wrong) were the former blogger Aishel of Verbiage, and his family - happy birthday Mrs. Aishel!
Rounding out the crowd were some of G-reg's top commenters, including gun crazy SZT and the PesaCHdik pancake chef, Moishe Potemkim as well as their illustrious families and the Badminton family from next door!
Thanks everyone for hosting and participating! L'shana Haba b'Yerushalayim the land of one day Yom Tovs.

PS Out of the entire 2 hour shindig we spent about 5 minutes talking about blogging.

In case you are bored and/or competitive

Thoughts on Pesach

Updated: Parenthetical statements are new. For the most part.

1. For me, Pesach is the hardest time to be BT
(I get really home sick)
2. Selling chametz involves selling actual chametz, not pieces of furniture
(Your dining room table does not need to be sold if you are not cleaning it!)
3. Having a three-day Yom Tov and sleeping in three different places is not cool
(This actually worked out much better than I thought. Thanks to my hosts, and thanks to Ima4 for letting her house be nap central)
4. My family starts the Seder far earlier than Shkia, which means that they usually call me from their Seder, and it makes me that much sadder to be missing out (does your family throw ping pong balls at EACH OTHER to signify lice?)
(P-Dawg pointed out that the ping pong balls are intended to be hail, not lice)
5. For some reason my mom thinks that the days of Yom Tov for Pesach end in the afternoon. I have no idea where she just this idea from, and I keep pondering about it.
(Still have no idea where she got that from)
6. I am going to be in the same state as my sister and I won't get to see her at all :(
(Not true! I got to see her Friday afternoon, while I was sabotaging getting back to Baltimore in time. Also, my dad came home early from work to see me!)

7. The Apple has a very good idea. Details to follow.
(Would have been a good idea if there weren't hair appointments and bachelorette parties involved. However, see #6)
8. Have a Seder with P-Dawg and G-reg :)
(Great seder! Thanks, guys! Shoot, I have to send G-reg "Great Seder Leader" flair!)
9. My favorite part of having Pesach start Motzei Shabbos is flushing crumbs down the toilet Shabbos morning
(I got to do it Friday night at Ima4's and Shabbos morning!)
10. I love Temptee
(mmmmmmmmm Temptee!)
